How do you choose? And more importantly: what should you actually ask before you commit?
I have been a sworn translator of English in Wrocław since 2009. These are the details to check before ordering a translation.
What "Near Me" Actually Means for Translation Work
Most people search for a document translator near me because they think they'll visit an office. They picture handing over a diploma, waiting, and walking out with a certified translation.
That's one scenario. But location matters less than you think.

For documents, turnaround matters more than distance.
But here's when proximity helps: notary appointments, civil registry office visits, court hearings. For these, you need a physical presence. The polish translator near me search makes sense if you're booking someone for your wedding at USC or a property sale. For documents alone, the nearest sworn translator may not be your best option.
The Three Questions That Reveal Everything
When you contact a sworn translator, ask these:
"What's your registry number and when were you sworn in?"
Every sworn translator in Poland has a Ministry of Justice number. Mine is TP/58/09. I was sworn in 2009. This tells you I'm legal and experienced. If someone dodges this question, walk away.
"How do you count pages and when will I know the final price?"
A calculated page contains 1125 characters including spaces in the translation. The minimum charge is one full calculated page. I usually quote within about 30 minutes during office hours, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:00.
No surprises. No "we'll see when it's done."
"Can I see a sample of your stamp and signature?"
Legitimate translators show their stamp readily. It contains the registry number, full name, and language pair. If someone says "you'll see it when you pick up," that's odd.
What Drives Price Beyond the Base Rate
English or German into Polish starts at 55 PLN per calculated page. Polish into English or German starts at 60 PLN. Italian, French, Dutch and Ukrainian into Polish start at 70 PLN. Polish into those languages starts at 80 PLN. All prices shown are final.
Specialist documents cost more and need review before a quote. A Polish university diploma into English starts at 60 PLN. School and matura certificates from Polish into English cost 120 PLN.
Express translation into English or German may be possible for short, simple documents. I confirm availability, delivery time and the surcharge after reviewing the document. There is no fixed express multiplier.

When You Actually Need to Visit in Person
In-person interpreting may be needed for:
- Civil status registration (marriage, birth, divorce)
- Notary appointments involving foreign documents
- Some court proceedings
- Polish citizenship applications where the office requires in-person interpretation
For these situations, "translator near me" is your correct search. You're booking a person, not a service.
If either partner or a witness cannot communicate with the registry officer, the couple must provide an interpreter or language expert. A sworn interpreter is one option. Confirm the arrangements with the registry office. That's about 350 PLN per hour, minimum one hour. For this, you need someone local.
For everything else? You send a scan, I send a quote, you approve, I deliver. No office visit needed.
The Real Cost of Choosing Wrong
Check the receiving institution before ordering. It may require a specific translation format, authentication or original document. A sworn translation does not remove the other requirements.
Compare quotes for the same document, language direction and delivery date. A low page rate alone does not show the final cost or whether the document meets the required format.
What to Send for an Accurate Quote
Send a clear scan or photo of every page. Include covers, back pages, stamps, anything with text.
I can't quote accurately from "I have a diploma" or "it's a two-page contract." I need to see the actual character count, the layout, any tables or special formatting.
